Fitness & BJJ: Hip Openers / Strengtheners - Part 2

I wanted to follow up with a couple more hip openers and strengtheners because they are so important to our game.I recommend combining two core moves and two hips moves as your warm up. Don’t be afraid to mix it up a bit, any of these moves will be great. I highly recommend the hip circles. Below are some exercises that allow the hips to become more open and assist in aligning the pelvis.

It’s no secret that open flexible hips are an advantage when training BJJ; they are an advantage when managing escapes and transitions. In addition to flexible hips, having a pelvis that is properly aligned can help with any lower back issues as well.

Living in Austin Texas, we are exposed to extreme temperature changes during this time of year. Our bodies are not designed to handle these fluctuations in temperature; our systems will become stressed trying to adapt to the changes. Be aware and take extra care of yourself during this transition.

What happens if you do not keep gas in your car and drive it? It sputters, stalls, and stops; it will not do what you want it to do. Without proper food, you, too, will run out of fuel and your body will not respond.

Rest and Recovery is vital to your training, it is as important as the training itself.  To avoid injury, the body must recover.  Listen to your body; it gives you information all the time.

Below are some recommended moves that I like to use as a warmup for both rolling and lifting; they feel amazing and are a great way to give back to our bodies.
