Welcome to Vandry BJJ - Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, MMA & Muay Thai

Vandry BJJ Academy, in Austin, TX. is a training environment for the entry student, to our accomplished competitors. We teach beginner, intermediate, and advanced techniques in the fascinating art of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. In addition to Jiu Jitsu classes for adults and children, we offer MMA and Muay Thai training.

Vandry Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is headed by Central Texas' highest ranked Black belt in BJJ, William Vandry. Vandry is an accomplished 2nd degree Black belt under the legendary Master Carlos Machado and his brothers from Brazil. Vandry was one of Texas' first four BJJ Black belts under Machado; and has competed in four Pan American World championships: placing one fourth place, two Silver medals, and one Gold.

Vandry's Austin Academy offers MMA classes that breakdown Mixed Martial Arts striking, takedowns, and the ground game. We offer a safe and technical environment to learn and develop the sport of MMA. Vandry BJJ also has Muay Thai classes that provide top level Muay Thai training and conditioning. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Brown belt and undefeated MMA competitor Robby Rabadi instructs the Muay Thai class in a practical and patient manner. We also have great children's classes in BJJ; and the friendly, unintimidating adult classes are for both men and women. Vandry's Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy teaches Jiu Jitsu, MMA and Thai Boxing techniques slowly and deliberately. We focus on teaching our students techniques that they retain, and don't simply offer a place to 'train'. We hope to see you in class! You can call the Austin Academy at (512) 585-1289.

The World of MMA - BJJ in My Eyes (May Bonus Article)

Fighters. The great Randy Couture. The great Rickson Gracie. Royce Gracie in the early UFC’s. We view fighters with different perspectives. Fedor Emelianenko, arguably MMA’s top fighter in the world devastated Tim Silvia within 36 seconds, and Andre Arlovski almost as easy. These are just a handful of great mixed martial arts fighters in the world who have proven their worth not just in the ring or the octagon, but through their mouth as well.

God stuff: How can Christians be involved in MMA such a violent sport?

Recently many people outside of our school, and most times who have not trained have asked me, “How is it that you a pastor, a man of God, trains mix martial arts?” Just this weekend someone asked how Christians can involve themselves in such a violent sport.

Well in my view violence is generated through ignorance. The people I have enjoyed training with over the years, and the school I have enjoyed training at have not exposed me, or my children, who also train, to violence.

Fitness Aspect of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

My name is Lee Ann Urban, and I am the Founder of “UrbanWind” Fitness Coaching in Austin, Texas.  I have been involved in the fitness industry for the last 20 years; my background includes training and competing in the sport of competitive body building (5 years).  In January of 2008, I became a student of “Vandry Brazilian Jiu Jitsu” (BJJ) in Austin.  The articles that I will be writing will include all aspects of fitness and how I believe they relate to BJJ.
